I 'spect y'all read Christopher Hitchens died a day ago. RIP.

Of course, Hitch an Aunty disagreed on most matters of "reality"--mine girded by faith in God, Hitchens a vituperative anti-God figure, one of the world's most vocal atheists. Lots of faithful folks read Hitchens--made us'uns think deeply about how a better explanation of all things God-centered might be presented to a tone deaf, secularized world. I always wish't we could have lunch--'cept he wuz prone to vulgarisms, an' y'all know of mah tender ears.

Near his end Hitchens vowed he would not suddenly convert--I always wondered how he could know that unless he counted on stubborn pride to fend off all actions of grace. He'd warned his many readers "If I profess a deathbed conversion, it is the medication speaking, not me." (paraphrased).

In the end, Aunty suspects Hitch DID know that God was there waiting for him. The fella was jes' too God obsessed. Everything took as its reference the non-God position. Some say he had made a bidness outa the God stuff, so he kept up the chatter-- an' mebbe so.

But seems to me he had more passion than jes the bidness of it all. Rather like a 10 year ole kid that says, "Naw I doan wanna shiny red bike fer Christmas, thas' jes' fer babies" when inside they are simply steelin' theyselves against the expected disappointment in case the bike doan show up under the tree.

The give away, to mah mind, wuz Hitch's lack of joy--wherever thar's an absence of joy --over even the wee thangs of miraculous beauty--thar's a soul fearin' goodness, fearin' that goodness can, an' should, be walkin' abreast us in this world. Instead they cultivate cynicism as armor against the human condition: made fer good, but too often doin' evil thangs.

But good thangs DO happen--an' thas' the wonderment that precedes joy.

As announced heah months ago, I planned to do a post on atheism. An' I will git to it --but not durin'Advent an' Christmas. I'll let Hitchens' stand in as my token comment on atheism 'til then.

Lemme close wif' a clip from another blog that also noted Christopher Hitchens' death:

Aunty asked a colleague to have a looky at some recent blog posts, an' mebbe respond to the question: What trend can be discerned?

Forthwith, this is what Aunty received:

Aunty, I looked at your friend's blog and some of your own Back Porch posts. The topic is too complicated to examine in any depth but I've sent you this quick sketch. It's a brief outline of how the Swinton layout mirrors the philosophy of Agenda 21. You can add more, of course, if you're inclined.

A recent spread in W, the high fashion magazine, featured popular actress Tilda Swinton in a succession of gender blurred layouts. You can read more about "The Culture of Death Has it's Muse" at the "sparring" blog of a gifted illustrator and Atlanta artist. SparringK9 links the "anti-human" Swinton layout to Agenda 21.

Aunty's blog addressed elements of Agenda 21, the United Nations population control prescriptive for the world of the 21st century.

Is there a discernible thread between the two?

The W Magazine cover glorifies fashionable androgyny against the backdrop of sterile, denuded outposts: You have reached the very edge of habitation. The barrenness of the setting reinforces
the symbol of a de-gendered, sterile humanoid model. The message is not fashion's future but ritualized costuming that forecasts the chosen demise of humanity. Death as desire, the ecstasy of extinction, these are signified by the prosthetic leg, choker wear and various hand signals of aberrant proclivities.

A nihilistic background frames the identity void of the model whose expressionless face is seen, but shielded. It's not personal style but styled EverywoMan.

1972: The United Nations instituted UNEP, the UN's Environmental Program. Ten years earlier quiet proponents of population control and eugenics programs had begun to outline a public rationale for control of world population. During the 1960s The Rockefeller Foundation
( an investor in The Pill) pushed the states to abandon prohibitions against contraceptives. They won Griswold vs. Connecticut in 1965. Earlier still, in 1952 Rockefellers formed the Population Council along with several other wealthy "conservationists." Concern for the environment lent a certain sacrificial gloss, a moralistic tone to pleas for "planned population growth." In 1968 David Rockefeller helped form the think tank, The Club of Rome (CoR). among its members are U.N. chiefs. It is an organization known for this comment:

"The real enemy then, is humanity itself."

For the elitist conservationists, the earth's "carrying capacity" would soon be exceeded unless nations took immediate measures to curb their populations. Under Lyndon Johnson, US foreign aid programs insisted on population control programs in recipient nations, including Food for Freedom programs. In 1968, Paul Ehrlich published The Population Bomb and the culture was persuaded that unless pro-creative sex was curbed, the planet would soon be overrun with crime and human waste.

Various social policy foundations funded by "conservationists" issued grants and served as investors or sponsors of numerous art and cultural events that carried an underlying message of free sex, guiltless sex, aberrant sex, any sex as long as it is sterile sex: Oh Calcutta, Hair, Rocky Horror Picture Show. In 1973 abortion was legalized.

Wealthy think tanks and quiet planners agreed that stopping people from having sex was not possible, but, if sex could be directed toward practices that were sterile, population growth could be curbed. The sexual revolution was an orchestrated movement. Movements move a society: The culture is pried loose from one set of cultural standards to a new cultural norm. It is not difficult to manipulate the masses by manipulating their passions. Bread and circuses.

The early 80s brought a wide range of taboo breaking, transvestite, gender bending, homosexual themed movies, rock bands and fashion. (Tootsie, Victor Victoria, La Cage Aux Folles, Boy George, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, unisex clothing, de-feminized Twiggy models, KISS). By the 1990s there were TV series that included various forms of gender confusion or promoted homosexuality and casual "linking up." While some observe that the entire point of the sexual revolution was to free people from the traditional gender roles and sexual taboos, others make an equally cogent case that the underlying motivation was to control population. Where aberrant sex and confused gender roles are promoted, the procreative family model declines, and so does population.

Professors of "gender studies" praised the torn social fabric of the 20th century as a necessary disruption caused by successful dethroning of traditional religious values. Little heed was given, however, to the disruption of the course of nature. In their haste to unhorse traditional models of human relationships, the gender benders assumed that those models were "patriarchal, artificial and oppressive." It seemed inconsequential to them that traditional models reflected nature's biological recipe for species survival.

There are volumes of examples from pop culture to support that thesis. A glance at the 100+ gushing comments after publication of the Swinton photos indicates how effectively pop culture has been bent. A typical response to the "anti-human" layout? "OMG! A sexy androgynous alien."

By definition there is nothing of sex in androgyny. And that conceptualization (pardon the pun) is certainly alien. Classically, androgyny reflects a fear of sex. Androgyny denies the biological purpose behind sexual desire. It is an attempt to re-create personhood without the responsibility to gender and gender's function. In a quirky aside, take note that those who worship nature and demand public policy that protects snail darter habitats to the detriment of human needs, these nature lovers are vociferous defenders of androgyny that is itself an abuse of nature.

Modern population control policy stems from the U.N.'s Agenda 21. It is a charge that has been substantiated in numerous documents. Begin with this statement by Maurice Strong, the U. N. Secretary General for Agenda 21 at the 1992 Rio summit:

“Isn’t the only hope for this planet that the industrialized civilization collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?”

(Irony? Billionaire Maurice Strong owns a thousand acre ranch in Colorado where the planned collapse will not affect him)

Once you assimilate Agenda 21's "responsibility" and its major theme that the "only hope" is "industrialized civilization collapse" the balance of the information below is definitively anchored.

The tenets of Agenda 21 include sustainable populations and sustainable medicine and sustainable communities.( Congratulations to Carroll County Maryland who withdrew from Agenda 21's community programs in February 2011) Agenda 21 calls for the restructuring of the family, government control of all housing units, and global control of textbooks to insure education for sustainability, including "voluntary" sterilizations at World Health Organization "free" clinics set up all over South America, Asia and Africa.

The World Bank loans money to nations for infrastructure projects with the proviso that, over the life of the loan, that national population is controlled. Increasingly there are phrases that offer approaches to euthanasia, always promoted as "merciful" or "choice." In the UK a proposal to allow children as young as 12 to "choose" assisted suicide, even when not suffering from a serious malady,was narrowly defeated.

Despite weeping celebrity pleas for understanding the plight of AIDS victims, there is less than a fig leaf covering the reality that AIDS patients continue to have sex, unprotected sex. But, the cynical note, AIDS kills, and the population is reduced. There is no serious attempt to stop AIDS carriers from infecting others. The rate of AIDS in Africa is tragic. The U.N. shipped 1,000,000 free condoms to Uganda. Uganda returned the shipment because, when examined, the condoms were found to be perforated. Accident? Malicious design? Had Ugandans relied on the condoms, many more would have become AIDS victims. Interestingly, condoms cannot prevent AIDS, only pregnancies. The AIDS virus is many times smaller than sperm, and escape the microscopic perforations.

In numerous initiatives the implementation of Agenda 21 calls for the promotion of voluntary human depopulation, even to the point of glorifying death as a right.

Much of this information is difficult to swallow for those who are introduced to it for the first time. However, the patterns are not hard to discern once the basic premise is understood. The movement (there is that word again) of sustainability, as defined by elitists, views humans as the problem, ergo, fewer humans equal a better world. Minus population control, the world faces a barren, resource-raped uninhabitable landscape where you gird yourself against any other human competitor for your food, water and warmth. In short, the landscape against which Swinton was photographed.

FOOD WARS AHEAD

Buckle Up America. A food war is on the horizon. The most perfect political control weapon ever? Food an' water.

In that other life, Aunty done sat many a day in the putrid halls an' session rooms of the United Nations. The schemes hatched thar' would terrify the chillen, so I ain't gonna elaborate heah, 'cept fer one: The monstrous UN initiative known as AGENDA 21. Agenda 21 (twenty-first century) has been resisted thus far by most of America's politicians, save AlGore. (In fact, Ole AlGore wuz chief Clinton era cheerleader fer the whole Sustainable Local Government movement--a tear sheet out of the Agenda 21 playbook--beginnin' wif' his own home town. many US cities signed up only to find that their communities din't do so well under the weight of all the "sustainable" controls--many now is disengagin' --or tryin' to...an' that might be one reason fer what follows below.)

Obama is a different cut of cloth, a globalist who is fully on board with the idea of a global gubmint. Under the guise of planetary security ( yeah, I know, but THEY think it sounds mah-ve-lous) these goons plan to take possession of the globe as part of the "patrimony of humanity." ( I'll post more on this tonight on the Back Porch).

While Wiener was causin' a national twitter, Obama slipped in Executive Order 13575 that creates a RURAL COUNCIL.

Section One of 13575 reads:

Policy. Sixteen percent of the American population lives in rural counties. Strong, sustainable rural communities are essential to winning the future and ensuring American competitiveness in the years ahead. These communities supply our food, fiber, and energy, safeguard our natural resources, and are essential in the development of science and innovation. Though rural communities face numerous challenges, they also present enormous economic potential. The Federal Government has an important role to play in order to expand access to the capital necessary for economic growth, promote innovation, improve access to health care and education, and expand outdoor recreational activities on public lands."

Dot to dot.... The FEDERAL gubmint is gonna control 16% of America's heartland, its resources an' potential--but in case ya think it means lots of science professors an' agriculture experts, an' local leaders to increase our yields, preserve our heritage seeds, it doan't.

"Federal engagement with rural stakeholders, including agricultural organizations, small businesses, education and training institutions, health-care providers, telecommunications services providers, research and land grant institutions, law enforcement, State, local, and tribal governments, and nongovernmental organizations regarding the needs of rural America." The Council will coordinate,"conservation related activities."

This is called the iron fist in a velvet text.

Oh, an one more thang of interest--this Exec order wuz handed down in the same month that the AGENDA 21 honchos wuz showin' up in Washington fer a pow-wow. Reckon Obama wuz demonstratin' to them folks how committed he is to their goals?

Folks have a real bad habit of eatin'.

Ya' cain't fault 'em much, seein' that decent vittles is the key to decent health.

The plain political facts is these:

Folks gotta eat
small farms are highly regulated by the gubmint
most "farms" today are mega agri-industrial complexes
food processin' is near about a closed shop --four beef processors process 90% of US beef.
EPA, USDA an' FDA control most of the methods an' processes that bring food to yore table
10 companies world-wide produce 96% of all seeds fer food crops an animal feed.
4 of those companies control 83% of the seeds--an' these are predominately hybrid or GMO
ecologists demand that more land be returned to its natural ( unfarmed) state

Oddly, Agenda 21 also calls for a return of much of the earth to its natural state. Agenda 21 architects also serve on boards that control the vast seed vault in Norway's frozen tundra--whar' seeds ( not GMO variety ) are stored in the event of a global famine--

Wait a minute... I seem to recall....oh yes! Norway, home of Sustainable Development's Brundtland Commission, named for Norwegian socialist Gro Harlem Brundtland, a doctor who studied at harvard, went on to become Prime Minsiter of Norway an' the UN's World Health Organization.

More later, but fer now lemme jes' make note of two points:

1. Food control = social / political control
2. The UN already has declared all the waters of the earth under their
"stewardship" irrespective of any national border.

San Francisco:Tyrant's Town

San Francisco approved a referendum for November that would outlaw circumcision.

Violators will be fined $1000. The measure is, ah, a frontal assault on the rights of others to make very personal decisions. The group that is the most vociferous about freedom to publicly live as they choose, now move punitively against others whose very private personal decisions in no manner affect any other person's rights.

I need not belabor the politics of this initiative. The plainest reality is that--as often is the case--those who demand space for their choices do not respect the privacy or choice of others. Their tactic is to demand tolerance from all, but be tolerant toward none.

Where is the outrage, America? Political correctness got yore tongue?

I'se curious about the libertarians--whar's Mr. Ron Paul on this one? He is in favor of legalizin' drugs so people can do their own thang, but ain't had a squeak on this? Ain't heered no libertarian voices raised in defense of Jewish families and others whose preference is to circumcise--whar's the indignant voices over this bigotry? Whar's the shout about this gross hypocrisy? San Francisco tolerates tattoos an' piercin' of every orifice an' protuberance, but heaven forbid a circumcision.

Some may hope that this tempest is not about bigotry. Alas. Proponents of the circumcision ban published a comic book promoting the ban called "Foreskin Man," that drags out the same old claim of Jews threatening Nordic purity. Oh mah gracious--imagine iffin' a white supremist published a comic like that? heh. Why the firestorm would light all of China. Then why does we accept such pure hated from the San Franciscans behind this ballot initiative? WHY? Why do we allow one group to foster hated but not another?

Jes' wonderin' how many libertarian op-editors or talkin' heads have the courage to call this for what it is.

I had thought to turn off the combox on this--principally because I realize few will want to risk a comment for fear this or that viewpoint will be offended. But, that would be as cowardly as all those I'se mentioned above.

It might be a violation of some tacit blogger standard of good manners to bring up a tender topic. I hope not. What will become of America if we cannot discuss the deepest assaults on our culture?

So the famous "cosmologist," Stephen Hawking thinks heaven is fer folks who believe in fairy tales an' is wishful thinking fer all those who are afraid of the dark. He doan believe in no after life.

Seems to Aunty that the fairy tale is that you can lie, steal, cheat, murder an' never be judged. I'd say "wishful thinkin'" is fer them who hope thar' ain't no after life so their deeds ain't accountable.

"Many Westerners remain scandalously uninformed of what’s happening. The Western media often couch anti-Christian violence as sectarian strife between Christians and Muslims.

The Obama administration has neglected Christian persecution, choosing instead to pursue a “partnership” and “broader engagement based upon mutual interest and mutual respect” with what the president and much of the media often refer to as the “Muslim world.”

But that term – “Muslim world” – is a misnomer. It serves only to reinforce the idea that Christians do not belong in the Middle East. As we know from the Bible, however, Christianity was born in the Middle East and predates Islam there by 700 years.

Christians flourished in the Middle East as recently as a century ago, when they made up close to 20 percent of the population. Today, they comprise less than five percent of the region – a share that’s seemingly ever decreasing.

Half of the Christians in Iraq (where Noah built his ark, Daniel entered the lion’s den and the wise men set out on their journey to pay homage to a newborn King) have fled over the last decade.

In Jordan (where Christ was baptized), Christians have dropped from 30 percent of the population in the 1950s to less than two percent today. Christian representation in Lebanon (mentioned 71 times in the Old Testament) has plummeted from 60 percent to 25 percent over a generation. Though some have left for economic reasons, most departing Christians have fled because they fear for their lives.

Some world leaders have assessed the situation with chilling candor. France’s Nicolas Sarkozy has labeled Middle East Christians victims of “religious cleansing.” In 2009, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Baghdad said, “I fear the extinction of Christianity in Iraq and the Middle East.” Pope Benedict XVI has said that the region’s Christians are experiencing an “authentic martyrdom. "

Christian Exodus from Middle East

In another decade or so, given present trends, there will be few if any Christians living in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. The same is true of Nazareth, where Jesus grew up, and even of Jerusalem, where nearly 600 historic churches still stand.

Christians in the Palestinian territories have dropped from 15 percent of the Arab population in 1950 to just 2 percent today. Both Bethlehem and Nazareth, which had been overwhelmingly Christian towns, now have strong Muslim majorities. Today three-fourths of all Bethlehem Christians live abroad, and more Jerusalem Christians live in Sydney, Australia than in the place of their birth. Indeed, Christians now comprise just 2.5 percent of Jerusalem, although those remaining still include a few born in the Old City when Christians there still constituted a majority.

And it is not only the Holy Land from which many native Christians have fled. Throughout the entire Middle East, once significant Christian communities have shrunk to a miniscule portion of their former robust selves. In 50 years they may well be extinct.

What happened? Why has there been a great – and little reported -- Christian exodus from the Middle East, with some 2 million fleeing in the past 20 years alone? Why have perhaps fully half of all Iraqi Christians clandestinely emigrated in the last 10 years? Why have hundreds of thousands of Egyptian Copts left their homeland, with the famous Antioch community collapsing from 15,000 Christians a couple of decades ago to a mere handful today?

The single greatest cause of this emigration is pressure from radical Islam.

Tony Blair reports that the whole "rebellion" is orchestrated by the Muslim Brotherhood and other Jihadi cohorts.

Obama thinks that "the people" have risen up to demand democracy, an' the American response is to support "the people" an' throw out the dictator by pressurin' the Egyptian Army to sack their president. What precedent do ya' think that sets? Or, are we aiding a gen-yoo-wine people's reform?

Chris Matthews is "embarrassed" that Obama ain't supportin' our friend Mubarak (an' the tingle Chris gits now is fear of Muslim Brotherhood --who is likely the killers of Sadat). "Where is the State Department?" yeah, they missed the signs of uproar in Egypt completely--can ya believe EVEN Matthews now sees that Sec. State Clinton is asleep at the wheel??

How does printin' a stack of greenbacks make 'em real? Iffin't they ain't real, how long will folks take 'em? how long afore ya need a new buggy but the buggy dealer wants a pair of cows in exchange?

Money be's a symbol fer somethin' real--like a chunk o' gold, back in the gold standard days. Oh, an doan fergit the new accountin' rules of 2009 (fer banks only--us'uns has to follow the same ole' rules when reportin' to Uncle Sam). Them new rules allow the banks to report their assets/loans/ losses in a creative new accountin' method.

In the prior post, PamOKC left a comment on Senate Bill 510 which is a stealth attack on yore food freedom--heck, let's say it plain, it's an attack on our ability to feed ourselves without gubmint interference or becomin' a ward of the oppressive state that decides how much rice will be in yore bowl at the end of the day.

How so? It has the power to shut down small farms, farmer's markets, local produce stands, and the popular (and growing!) Community Supported Agriculture movement (Check out our blogger buddy, La Diva Cucina's own post on CSA) In some readings of the bill, the gubmint can shut down Aunty's dawg pen garden whar' I grows a few vittles fer salat. Iffin' I was to give
( nevermind sell ) some of mah tomatoes an eggplant away, the FDA Gestapo could destroy mah garden. It could shut down Chickory's charmin' Saturday food an' art emporium.

The National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association opposes the legislation, introduced by Dick Durbin --which is about all ya need to know--ever'thang that weasel brings to the Senate is another federal power grab over yore everyday life.

Worse, SB 510 akshully allows big dairy to put melamine into milk and baby formula!

Trouble is that thar's so many threats to our basic freedom that it's hard to git folks to sit up an' notice much anymore--folks is on threat overload. ( An I think it's deliberate).

Lemme admit right up front that I is a food conspiracy "nut." I have written professionally about Monsanto, an' blog posts on "food security", Monsanto and Frankenfoods, on the need fer savin' seeds of heirloom varieties, of the seed vault in Norway (and other parts of the world--China has it's own). Mah research is pretty hefty. Ain't no need to call it "conspiracy" when the facts is out in the open fer any thinkin' person to see.

As Chick9 pointed out in comments, an' as Aunty done wrote about last year, the real goal is implementation of Codex Alimentarius, a global assault ( 170 countries) on the world's food and food production freedom. Codex--a TRADE association of the UN-- mandates irradiation of ALL food unless eaten locally. Codex mandates that Monsanto's BGH (Bovine growth hormone) be given to every dairy cow on this planet! Codex mandates growth hormones, antibiotics and other poisons that make it possible for global food trade to ship food around the world in contaminated carriers, from contaminated animal sources. SB510 is one more brick in the wall fer Codex.

No no NO!! The real food safety danger is from massive farm factories an' processin' plants whar' the monster is jes' too big fer a few inspectors to nuthin' about. Crammed animals produce disease. The processin' of diseased, GMO, hormone saturated, antibiotic injected "animals" is beyond "safe."

Jes' as bad is the truth that the gubmint ain't doin' the job they have now. Accordin' to the NYTimes, " ...in a little-known footnote to the egg recall, inspectors from the Agriculture Department regularly visited the Iowa egg facilities to grade the eggs and noted unsanitary conditions but never told the F.D.A. about them. The recent salmonella outbreak which was the catalyst fer this SB 510 came from the disgustin' CAFOs ( confined animal feeding operations) whar' 20,000 chickens is caged like POWs so that they cain't even turn around in the space they squat in--an' they is squatin' over a bed of literal chicken droppin's so that diseases become airborne, gits in the water trays an adds to the rat droppin's thas' already in the chicken feed. Same fer dairy cows, ditto fer your next "farm raised" fillet of fish. In short the CAFDOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding and Defecating Operations) and mass market processin' is the source of any food borne illness youse likely to suffer. The "watewater" lagoons from these foul confinements is pathogen heaven: Listeria, E.Coli O157:H7, salmonella, heavy metals, growth hormones..only the devil knows what all is in this animal sewage--an it leaches into your groundwater.

I'se already ruined yore lunch, so lemme add insult to injury by tellin' ya the massive manure runoffs into your local water systems is IGNORED by the gubmint. Then find the CSA in yore area an' buy yore food from thar' as much as ya can--seek out local sources for small (real) farm raised veggies and eggs and meats. Former USDA Leader and AVMA CEO, Dr. Ron DeHaven Responds in Video to USDA Decision to Scrap Animal ID System

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., March 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A recent decision by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to scrap a national animal identification system could seriously hinder U.S. veterinarians' ability to track diseased animals and prevent the spread of those diseases -- diseases that could spread to humans and cost U.S. farmers millions of dollars.

Last month, the USDA announced that it was going to scrap the eight years of work and $120 million it poured into creation of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Instead, the USDA announced it will restart the process and begin developing a new state-based animal identification system.

"By having an animal ID program in place, we can more quickly contain and eliminate disease. Doing so not only minimizes the economic impact, but by minimizing the number of animals affected, we reduce animal suffering," Dr. DeHaven says in the video. "In the case of zoonotic diseases -- diseases that can spread from animals to humans - we reduce the potential that the disease will spread to humans."

Dr. DeHaven says that one of the biggest problems with this announcement is that there will be no animal ID system during this new development period, which could take years. DeHaven is also critical of the USDA announcement that cattle branding -- an outdated form of theft deterrent -- will be an acceptable form of animal identification in the new system. "It's hard for me to imagine how this ancient technology will fit into a modern, interstate system to trace animals," DeHaven says in the video.

As opposed to NAIS, which is a national program, the new system will be administered by individual states and tribal nations. Each state and tribal nation will be allowed to use its own system of identification.

"Will these systems developed by individual states and tribal nations be compatible with each other?" Dr. DeHaven asks in the video. "Will we actually be able to trace animals as they move from state to state with different systems in each state or tribal nation?"

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,

but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked & that no one would be poor & no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

All grades would be averaged & everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail & no one would receive an A...

Turner an' his band of global thugs pay off journalists to write glowing reports of the UN projects* --despite former Sec Gen Kofi Annan's admitted refusal to send military aid to prevent the Rwandan genocide, and his utter failure to prohibit rape by UN "peacekeepers." I ain't surprised--I meself was present at the Hague when the Blue Helmets beat the stuffin' out of a student journalist who wrote somethin' they din't like--so much fer free speech in the global government.

Ain't shure why I'se gonna post on it, but tangential to assignments, I'se havin' to revisit the obvious that has eluded most of the modern public. By which I mean the educational establishment and pollyticks. Since I'se stuck wif' it, so's the Back Porch.

Sex is so natural ya'd think folks wouldn't have to think too long on the whys and wherefores--but modern life and false assumptions has ruined it such that today very few folks is reporting "happy" love life.

Take the summer sex wars as jes' one example.

TIME and NEWSWEEK battled it out, the former wif' a piece, "Is there hope for the American marriage?" by Caitlan Flanagan-- the NEWSWEEK piece is a silly flip page on polyamory. The venerable Atlantic featured a post-feminst whine, "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," a marriage therapy diary by tongue an' tell journalist Sandra Tsing Loh, whose personal journey mimics the dull misery of most liberal metrosexuals.

Mebbe ya heard how arch-feminist Naomi Wolf an' nemesis Phyllis Chesler sparred over when/ why women should or should not wear the Chador.

I tell ya' it is a tempest jes' barely less than health care reform--an in the long run, may be more important.

Ain't no wonder I has a three week headache.

First, folks, the research is long, voluminous, an' jives wif' known human experience fer 10,000 years: people are happiest when they grow up bein' a natural male or natural female, git hitched, have babies who grow up male or female an' git hitched an' has babies who grow up....

But post moderns in luhve wif' trendy genderologies have railed now fer over a decade; they ain't happy now that they got it all: the career, liberated morals, the *domesticated house-husband*, the designer baby, and the house at the Hamptons. Somebody had better pay. The post-feminist acid ire is corrodin' the inner sanctums of the girlz -in-the-know.

This is not to preclude a woman having a career, or Dad changin' junior onc't in awhile-- but it does mean that said wife's career necessarily steals time and energy from legitimate wifely roles--an the attempt to shift those roles permanently onto men eventually backfires-he woan do it the way a woman would, then the woman gits aggravated, an' the unravelin' begins between the "competitor wives."

A pop novel tells it all: I'd rather Eat Chocolate reviewed in The Atlantic recounts some of the raw pain of modern couples whar' the husband prefers porn an' the wife prefers chocolate. This is what feminist ideology has done fer us?

Congressman Tom McClintock from California explains how California went from a fantastic state to the basket case it is now, and cautions the Federal Government that is doing the same things.
Congressman Tom McClintock offered remarks in Washington, D.C., on Friday to the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Pacific Research Institute that clearly illustrates why California is facing such a large fiscal mess. His beginning joke is so funny because it is so true:

Said Congressman Tom McClintock of California:

"I know that everybody likes to poke fun at California - but I can tell you right now that despite all of its problems, California remains one of the best places in the world to build a successful small business. All you have to do is start with a successful large business."

Laugh if you will, but let me remind you that when these policies finish wrecking California, there are still 49 other states we can all move to - and yours is one of them.

I should also warn you of the strange sense of deja-vu that I have every day on the House floor as I watch the same folly and blunders that wrecked California now being passed with reckless abandon in this Congress.

We passed a "Cash-for-Clunkers" bill the other day - we did that years ago in California.

Doubling the entire debt every five years? Been there.

Increasing spending at unsustainable rates? Done that.

Save-the-Planet-Carbon-Dioxide restrictions? Got the T-Shirt.

To understand how these policies can utterly destroy an economy and bankrupt a government, you have to remember the Golden State in its Golden Age.

A generation ago, California spent about half what it does today AFTER adjusting for both inflation and populatio n growth.

And yet, we had the finest highway system in the world and the finest public school system in the country. California offered a FREE university education to every Californian who wanted one. We produced water and electricity so cheaply that many communities didn't bother to measure the stuff. Our unemployment rate consistently ran well below the national rate and its diversified economy was nearly recession-proof.

One thing - and one thing only - has changed in those years: public policy. The political Left gradually gained dominance over California 's government and has imposed a disastrous agenda of radical and retrograde policies that have destroyed the quality of life that Californians once took for granted.

The Census Bureau reports that in the last two years 2/3 of a million more people have moved out of California than have moved into it. Many are leaving for the garden spots of Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Think about that. California is blessed with the most equitable climate in the entire Western Hemisphere; it has the most bountiful resources anywhere in the continental United States; it is poised on the Pacific Rim in a position to dominate world trade for the next century, and yet people are finding a better place to live and work and raise their families in the middle of the Nevada and Arizona and Texas deserts.

I submit to you that no conceivable act of God could wreak such devastation as to turn California into a less desirable place to live than the middle of the Nevada Nuclear Test Range.. Only Acts of Government can do that. And they have.

You can trace the collapse of California's economy to several critical events: the rise of environmental Ludditism beginning in 1974; the abandonment of constitutional checks and balances that once constrained spending and borrowing; and the rise of rule by public employee unions. There are other factors as well: litigation, taxation, illegal immigration - but for the sake of time let me concentrate on the big three.

The first was the rise of environmental Ludditism with the election of a radical new-age leftist named Jerry Brown as governor of the state - an election that also produced overwhelming liberal majorities in both legislative houses.

Like Obama today, Brown lost little time in pursuing his vision of California - an incoherent combination of pastoral simplicity, European socialism and centralized planning. At the center of this world view was a backward ideology that he called his "era of limits" - the naïve notion that public works were growth inducing and polluting and that stopping the expansion of infrastructure somehow excused government from meeting the needs of an expanding population. Conservation replaced abundance as the chief aim of California 's public works, and public policy was redirected to developing irresistible incentives for the population to concentrate in dense urban cores rather than to settle in suburban communities. Brown infused his vision into every aspect of public policy, and it is a testament to his thoroughness and tenacity that its basic tenets have dominated the direction of California through both Republican and Democratic administrations.

He canceled the state's highway construction program, abandoning many routes in mid-construction. He canceled long-planned water projects, conveyance facilities and dams. He established the California Energy Commission that blocked approval of any significant new generating capacity. He enacted volumes of environmental regulations that created severe impediments to home and commercial construction, empowering an incipient no-growth movement that began on the most extreme fringe of the environmental cause and quickly spread. This movement reached its zenith with Arnold Schwarzenegger and the enactment of AB 32 and companion legislation in 2006. This measure gives virtually unchecked authority to the California Air Resources Board to force Draconian reductions in carbon dioxide emissions by 2020.

This has dire implications to entire segm ents of California 's economy: agriculture, baking, distilling, cargo and passenger transportation, cement production, manufacturing, construction and energy production, to name a few.

We, too, were promised an explosion of "green jobs," but exactly the opposite has happened.

Up until that bill took effect, California 's unemployment numbers tracked very closely with the national unemployment rate. But since then, California 's unemployment rate began a steady upward divergence from the national jobless figures. Today, California 's unemployment rate is more than two points above the national rate, and at its highest point since 1941.

The second problem is structural: the collapse of the checks and balances and other constitutional and traditional constraints on government spending and borrowing.

Let me mention a few of them.

The State Supreme Court decision in Serrano v. Priest severed the use of local revenue for local schools and invited the state take-over of public education. AB 8 of 1979 - the legislature's response to Proposition 13 - essentially did the same thing to local governments generally.

This means that vast bureaucracies have grown up over the service delivery level, wasting more and more resources while hamstringing teachers in their classrooms, wardens in their prisons and city councils in their towns.

Next, constitutional constraints on fiscal excesses began to fall. In 1983, Gov. George Deukmejian approved legislation to remove the governor's ability to make mid-year budget corrections without having to return to the legislature. The loss of this provision exposed the state to chronic deficit spending by removing any ability of the governor to rapidly respond to changing economic conditions. In 1989, Deukmejian sponsored Proposition 111 that destroyed the Gann Spending Limit that had held increases in state spending to inflation and population growth. If that limit had remained intact, California would be enjoying a budget surplus today.

The disastrous tax increases by Pete Wilson in 1991 and Arnold Schwarzenegger this year were made possible by this tragic blunder. Finally, we've watched the constitutional budget process that had produced relatively punctual and relatively balanced budgets for nearly 150 years collapse in favor of an extra-constitutional abomination called the big five.

That new process, that began under Pete Wilson and has culminated under Arnold Schwarzenegger bypasses the entire legislative deliberative process in favor of an annual deal struck between the governor and legislative leaders behind closed doors and handed to the legislature as a fait accompli.

This short-circuits the separation of powers that is designed to discipline fiscal excess and it literally bargains away the line-item veto authority of the governor. It is a process that allows legislative leaders to extract concessions from the executive that would not be possible if the separation of powers were maintained. With the checks against excessive spending broken down, borrowing became the preferred method of public finance. The Constitutional requirement that all taxpayer-supported debt be approved by voters began to erode in the 1930's, when a depression-era Supreme Court decision allowed th e state to run a temporary deficit in the event of an economic downturn - as long as the shortfall was addressed in the following fiscal year. This practice was narrowly construed until the Wilson administration began using it to justify spreading out a single year's budget deficit over several years.

During the 1980's, Gov. Deukmejian began employing a legal fiction called a "lease revenue bond," to circumvent constitutionally required voter approval.

Although Proposition 13 still protects property owners from unsustainable increases in their property taxes, most of the other fiscal constraints are now gone, and California has entered a period of unprecedented public debt to finance an unprecedented expansion of state government.

The third factor that also can be traced back to the 1970's was the radical transformation that took place in the nature and power of the state's public employee unions. Until that time, state law prohibited public employee strikes against the public and prohibited collective bargaining or closed shops.

During the Jerry Brown era, a series of collective bargaining acts handed to public sector unions all the rights and powers of private sector unions - but without any of the natural constraints on private sector unions. The unions soon brought these newly won powers to bear to elect handpicked officials to state and local office.

Today, political expenditures by public employee unions exceed all other special interest groups, while they hold compliant majorities in the state legislature and most local agencies.

The result has been radically escalating personnel costs and radically deteriorating performance.

The impact on governmental services has been devastating. Despite exploding budgets, service delivery is collapsing. Firing incompetent teachers has become a virtual impossibility, adding to the deterioration of educational quality. Essential services can no longer be performed because labor costs have made it impossible to sustain those services.

Today, California is like the sho pkeeper, who leased out too much space, ordered too much inventory, hired too many people and paid them too much. Every month the shopkeeper covers his shortfalls with borrowing and bookkeeping tricks. Ultimately, he will reach a tipping point where anything he does makes his situation worse. Borrowing costs are eating him alive and he's running out of credit. Raising prices causes his sales to decline. And there's only so much discretionary spending he can cut.

That's the state's predicament in a nutshell. California 's borrowing costs now exceed the budget of the entire University of California and it is increasingly likely that it will fail to find lenders when it must borrow billions to pay its bills at the end of this month. Ignoring dire warnings, Gov. Schwarzenegger and legislators from both parties earlier this year imposed the biggest state tax increase in American history.

And I can assure you that the Laffer curve is alive and well. In the first two months after the tax increase took effect, state re venues have plunged 33 percent.

Although there are many obsolete, duplicative or low priority programs and expenditures that the state can - and should - do without, there aren't enough of them to come anywhere close to closing California 's deficit.

Sadly, California has reached the terminal stage of a bureaucratic state, where government has become so large and so tangled that it can no longer perform even basic functions.

Fortunately, we have a model that we know works. A generation ago, it produced a high quality of public service at a much lower cost. It maximized management flexibility and it required accountability at the service delivery level. It recognized that only when commerce and enterprise flourish can we finance the basic responsibilities of government.

Restoring this efficiency will require a governor and a legislature with the political will to wrestle control from the=2 0public employee unions, dismantle the enormous bureaucracies that have grown up over the service delivery level, decentralize administration and decision making, contract out services that the private sector can provide more efficiently, rescind the recent tax increases that are costing the state money and roll back the regulatory obstacles to productive enterprise.

Alas, we don't have such leaders and even if we did, the systemic reorganization of the state government can't be accomplished overnight. Restructuring the public schools would take at least a year; prisons at least two; and health and welfare three to five years before serious savings could be realized.

This brings us to the fine point of the matter. What Churchill called history's "terrible, chilling words" are about to be pronounced on California 's failed leadership: "too late."

A federal loan guarantee or bailout may be the only way to buy time for the restructuring of California 's bureaucracies to take effect, but the discussion remains academic until and unless the s tate actually adopts the replacement structures, unburdens its shrinking productive sector and presents a credible plan to redeem the state's crushing debt and looming obligations.

Without these actions, federal intervention will only make California 's problems worse by postponing reform, continuing unsustainable spending and piling up still more debt.

In short, if California won't help itself, the federal government cannot, should not and must not.

And before anyone gets too smug at California 's agony, remember this: Congress is now enacting the same policies at the national level that have caused the collapse of California. So whistle past this cemetery if you must, but remember the medieval epitaph: "Remember man as you walk by, as you are now so once was20I; as I am now so you will be." The good news is there is still time for the nation to avoid California 's fate. If anything, the collapse of California can at least serve as a morality play for the rest of the nation - unfortunately in the form of a Greek tragedy.

Saga of Free Bird Food

Lazy post from one of the zillion emails you get these days on what's wrong wif' the economy:

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
it on my back porch and filled
it with seed. What a beauty of
a bird feeder it was, as I filled it
lovingly with seed. Within a
week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and
easily accessible food.

But then the birds started
building nests in the boards
of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table ..
everywhere!

Then some of the birds
turned mean. They would
dive bomb me and try to
peck me even though I had
fed them out of my own
pocket.

And others birds were
boisterous and loud. They
sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at
all hours of the day and night
and demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even
sit on my own back porch
anymore. So I took down the
bird feeder and in three days
the birds were gone. I cleaned
up their mess and took down
the many nests they had built
all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like
it used to be .. quiet, serene....
and no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.

Now let's see.
Our government gives out
free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care and free
education, and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
citizen.

Then the illegals came by the
tens of thousands. Suddenly
our taxes went up to pay for
free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you
have to wait 6 hours to be seen
by an emergency room doctor;
your child's second grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a
bilingual box; I have to
'press one' to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and
people waving flags other
than 'Old Glory' are
squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding
more rights and free liberties.

AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of
House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states' rights under the
10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

"I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size,
its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the
affairs of our state," Gov. Perry said. "That is why I am here today to
express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm
the states' rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution
and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations,
and ultimately strengthen our Union."

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to
come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal
government's constitutionally designated powers and impede the states' right
to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the
10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal
government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires
states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that
requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited
or repealed.

Does humanity need gods? Lex Luthor, Superman’s eternal nemesis, answers early on. After Luthor compares himself to Prometheus, an accomplice retorts: “Sounds great, Lex, but you’re not a god.” “Gods are selfish beings who fly around in little red capes and don’t share their power with mankind,” Luthor snarls. He’s in agreement with Lois Lane, who has won a Pulitzer for an op-ed titled “Why the World Doesn’t Need Superman.” Superman, you see, has just returned to Earth after a five-year absence spent searching for his lost homeworld, Krypton. “How could you leave us like that?” Lois demands. “I moved on; so did the rest of us. That’s why I wrote it. The world doesn’t need a savior.”

Is she right? In one scene, as Superman floats above the Earth, we hear his alien father in a voiceover. Human beings “can be a great people,” Jor-El says. “They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all—their capacity for good—I have sent them you, my only son.” The line, of course, echoes John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son.” When Marlon Brando first spoke it in Superman (1978), it was the earlier movie’s only explicit Christian reference.

The recent installment not only resurrects the line; it piles on further biblical allusions. “You wrote that the world doesn’t need a savior,” Superman himself tells Lois, “but every day I hear people crying for one.” Isaiah 19:20: “When they cry to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a savior.” Later, as Superman tries to save the world from Luthor, the villain plunges a Kryptonite dagger into his side. John 19:34: “One of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear.” And then, after saving the day by hurling Luthor’s death machine—a rapidly expanding new continent that threatens to destroy the United States—into outer space, a poisoned and exhausted Superman plummets to earth, his arms outspread at right angles to his body and legs, a crucified figure lacking only a cross. He remains in a coma until his son (Lois Lane is the unwed mother in this updated Superman: don’t ask) restores him to life. He leaves his hospital room empty until a nurse discovers it, just as Mary and Mary Magdalene find Jesus’s empty tomb.

Superman’s heroism thus answers the movie’s fundamental question. In one of the last scenes, we see Lois struggling to write a new essay: “Why the World Needs Superman.” Perhaps the nation’s recent superhero obsession, from the smash Spider-Man movies to The Dark Knight (the biggest film of 2008) to the TV hit Heroes, owes more than we commonly recognize to religious impulses. As Gabriel McKee writes in The Gospel According to Science Fiction, “There are inherent messianic qualities in the . . . concept of the superhero—an individual with exceptional abilities who sacrifices part of his or her life for the greater good.”

Both The Matrix and Superman Returns show the hero’s discovery of his powers. We see Neo learning martial arts almost instantaneously through the cable leading to his brain—a computer nerd’s fantasy; in a euphoric flashback, we watch the young Clark Kent finding out that he can fly. No parallels to these episodes of joyful self-discovery exist in the New Testament. But turn your attention from the canonical Bible to the Apocrypha—in particular, to the Gospel of Thomas, one of the so-called Infancy Gospels, stories of Jesus’s childhood nearly 2,000 years old—and you’ll find the child Jesus animating clay sparrows, restoring people to life, and even exacting revenge on his enemies. “He was again passing through the village,” the text relates, “and a boy ran up against Him, and struck His shoulder. And Jesus was angry, and said to him: You shall not go back the way you came. And immediately he fell down dead.”

If that last story sounds vaguely familiar, maybe you’re one of the millions around the world who have read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (1997), the first installment in J. K. Rowling’s unprecedentedly successful seven-volume series of fantasy novels, the first five of which have been made into blockbuster movies. Early on in The Sorcerer’s Stone, before Harry discovers his magical powers, his loutish cousin Dudley punches him in the ribs during a visit to the zoo. Unconsciously, an angry Harry makes the glass separating Dudley from a boa constrictor disappear. We soon learn that Harry, like so many of today’s fantasy heroes, is marked for greatness from infancy as the only person who can defeat a world-crushing evil. The final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Interminable Sequels—no, wait, that’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—has Harry (you guessed it) choosing to die to save the world and then returning to life, after a brief journey to an afterworld resembling (note the place) London’s King’s Cross railway station.

One reason that Disney finally made a movie out of C. S. Lewis’s Christian allegory The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005 may be that popular fantasy has become increasingly religious at heart. Peter Jackson’s brilliant film adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, on the other hand, probably don’t fall into the category of messianic fantasy, despite a quick episode in which the wizard Gandalf experiences a sort of death and rebirth; Tolkien’s chief inspiration was political, not religious, and Jackson remains faithful to that intention.

The best illustration of the science-fiction and fantasy world’s recent shift toward Christian themes, though, is the most successful sci-fi franchise in history. George Lucas’s Star Wars appeared in 1977 and instantly became a huge hit. It told the story of Luke Skywalker, a gifted youth raised by his uncle and aunt on the planet Tatooine, who soon finds himself caught up in the struggle between a group of noble rebels and an “evil Galactic Empire”—in the words of the movie’s famous opening scene, in which a few prefatory sentences of exposition crawl slowly into a distant field of stars. An old man named Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of the last remaining members of the virtuous “Jedi knights,” takes Luke under his wing, but he must sacrifice himself to the Empire’s dreaded Darth Vader to save the young man from capture. In the end, Luke joins the rebels and helps win an important battle against the Empire. To date, Star Wars has grossed nearly $461 million in the United States, making it the third-biggest film in American history.

It doubtless owes much of that success to mythologist Joseph Campbell, whose book The Hero with a Thousand Faces described certain features of the “standard path of the mythological adventure of the hero.” The adventure’s outline was simple: “A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.” Many myths shared even more than this, explained Campbell; for example, “the first encounter of the hero-journey is with a protective figure (often a little old crone or an old man) who provides the adventurer with amulets against the dragon forces he is about to pass.” Think of Arthur, Merlin, and Excalibur.

Such scholars as Otto Rank and Lord Raglan had earlier written comparative studies of hero-myths. In 1936, for instance, Raglan compiled a list of characteristics common to many mythological heroes: “The hero’s mother is a royal virgin”; “the circumstances of his conception are unusual”; “he is also reputed to be the son of a god”; and 19 others. But it was Campbell’s book that Lucas stumbled upon as he wrote his screenplay. “It’s possible that if I had not run across him I would still be writing Star Wars today,” Lucas acknowledged later. Presumably, too, he would never have invented the “protective figure” Obi-Wan, who gives Luke a “lightsaber” not long after meeting him.

Scholars have noted the correspondence of parts of the Christian narrative to the hero-myths, and perhaps this affinity accounts for what little Christian imagery does show up in Star Wars. “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine,” Obi-Wan warns Darth Vader. But it’s largely an empty boast: after his death, Obi-Wan does nothing more than appear as a sort of ghost from time to time. The movie’s main plot spends far more time on outer-space dogfights. Two sequels swiftly followed: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and The Return of the Jedi (1983). Both were entertaining, but neither drew on Christianity.

As the world knows to its sorrow, Lucas revived the franchise in 1999 with The Phantom Menace, the first movie in another Star Wars trilogy that chronicled events prior to those in the original three movies. Episode I, as The Phantom Menace is also confusingly known, differed from the first Star Wars movie in many respects, among them a plot that no suspension of disbelief could render convincing and dialogue that sounded even more mechanical coming from the people than from the robots. In one respect, however, The Phantom Menace consciously mirrored its predecessor, portraying a Jedi knight—Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson—who meets a talented Skywalker boy, this one named Anakin (Jake Lloyd), on the Tatooine sands.

But where the original movie never deified Luke, The Phantom Menace describes Anakin—the future Darth Vader, Luke’s father—in terms so messianic as to make Neo blush, repeatedly calling him “the Chosen One.” The source of the term is in Luke—the Evangelist, that is—where Jewish leaders say of the soon-to-be-crucified Jesus: “Let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!” The movie is fuzzy about who exactly has done the choosing, however—a failure doubtless rooted in Lucas’s carelessness with plots.

The Phantom Menace proves equally vague when prophecy enters the story. When Qui-Gon first intimates that Anakin may be the Chosen One, another Jedi knight says, “You refer to the prophecy of the One who will bring balance to the Force,” but we never learn who prophesied and when. The prophecy echoes the Gospels’ repeatedly stated thesis that certain passages in the Hebrew Bible foretell Jesus’s coming.

“The Force” is one detail in which the new films are actually less spiritual than the old. In the 1977 movie, Obi-Wan described this mysterious entity as “what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things; it surrounds us, penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.” In the 1980 sequel, Yoda—a character, created by Jim Henson, who looked suspiciously like Kermit the Frog and sounded suspiciously like Fozzie Bear—instructed Luke to “feel the Force around you: here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere!” Such language, smacking of the period’s flirtation with natural mysticism, gave way in the new movies to an explanation more in keeping with our current fascination with molecular biology: the Force, we learned in The Phantom Menace, was actually the product of microorganisms in the blood. It’s as though Lucas, instinctively realizing the intellectual poverty of the New Age, gave it up, exchanged it for something resembling science, and then turned, elsewhere in the script, to a far older, more powerful story.

That story, though, he inverted. Anakin will be not the world’s savior but its destroyer, more Antichrist than Christ. He will slaughter nearly all the Jedi knights and—after almost dying at Obi-Wan’s hands and enduring a sort of rebirth as the masked Darth Vader—help remake a galactic republic into a dictatorship. Still, in one respect he is explicitly a Christ figure. A bit of early dialogue between Qui-Gon and Anakin’s mother, one Shmi—names aren’t Lucas’s strong suit, either—reveals that Anakin is the product of a virgin birth:

Qui-Gon: You should be very proud of your son. He gives without any thought of reward.

Shmi: Well, he knows nothing of greed. He has a—

Qui-Gon: He has special powers.

Shmi: Yes.

Qui-Gon: He can see things before they happen. . . . The Force is unusually strong with him, that much is clear. Who was his father?

Shmi: There was no father. I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him. I can’t explain what happened.

What did happen? Not to Shmi, whose curious reproductive history the Star Wars movies also never bothered to explain, but to the Star Wars movies themselves—whose earlier trilogy mostly avoided biblical inspiration but whose more recent installments shifted so sharply toward Christianity? More generally, why has mainstream sci-fi and fantasy as a whole become so religious? One reason may be the religious revival that the United States and much of the world have been undergoing since the 1970s. This “revenge of God,” in French scholar Gilles Kepel’s phrase, has seemingly begun to be felt even in secular Hollywood.

But another reason surely lies in geopolitics. During the sixties and seventies, popular American science fiction looked to the stars and saw a Cold War there. Consider Star Trek, the franchise that, as a TV show from 1966 to 1969 and later as a series of movies, chronicled the adventures of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the crew of the USS—“United Starship”—Enterprise, representatives of a democratic United Federation of Planets that held an uneasy truce with the warlike, autocratic Klingon Empire. The real-world parallels were unmistakable. “Of course Star Trek was about the Cold War,” critic Paul Cantor recently observed. “The United Federation of Planets was the United States and its free-world allies, the Klingons were the Soviet Union and the Communist bloc.”

The original Star Wars films were similarly political at heart. Like Star Trek, they portrayed a universe caught between two great rivals, one free and democratic, the other hierarchical and autocratic. Not for nothing did the first film use “evil Galactic Empire” to describe Darth Vader’s dominion. (One wonders whether Ronald Reagan drew his famous excoriation from Lucas’s hit.)

When the Soviet Union began to thaw in the mid-eighties and collapsed entirely in 1991, however, that neat good-versus-evil scheme resonated less, and mainstream science fiction started to cast about for alternative inspirations. Often it failed. Star Trek, for example, continued to imitate geopolitics as it launched a phenomenally boring new TV series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, in 1987 (it would end its run in 1994). The Federation and the Klingons were now at peace, and the Enterprise resembled a spaceborne United Nations, a bustling enclave safe enough for the crew to bring children with them. So yawn-inducing was the galaxy that the show frequently sought to introduce drama with a device called the “holodeck,” a virtual-reality entertainment area where the characters could cavort in more exciting locales—the Wild West, say, or 221B Baker Street. Two more Trek series, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, tried to restore excitement—the first was set on a frontier space station, the second in a galaxy far from our own tedious one—but with little effect. Too often, the Star Trek franchise called to mind the end of history on an intergalactic scale.

But while Star Trek floundered, other sci-fi, less committed to explicit Political Relevance, seized on a ready-to-hand story that exerted enormous power on American audiences—and not only because of its biblical source. The story has roots deep in humanity’s ancient past, as Campbell, Raglan, and Rank understood. It is a story that, in one variant or another, our ancestors told one another so long ago that its sources are as mysterious as the story itself.

Messianic sci-fi movies and TV programs, despite their own interest in parthenogenesis, did not spring forth fully formed from the New Testament. Science fiction of the written kind has long taken advantage of the cultural power of the Christ story. In fact, two of the twentieth century’s most popular sci-fi novels, Frank Herbert’s Dune and Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land, were overtly messianic, a fact noted by the sizable critical literature that exists on the books.

Christian themes aren’t an entirely new development in filmed science fiction, either. In the Terminator franchise—which produced three fine films as far apart as 1984, 1991, and 2003—robots from the future repeatedly attempt to kill the suggestively initialed John Connor, a man destined to lead humanity in a war against the robots. Connor’s birth is positively paradoxical, if not miraculous: a warrior sent back in time by Connor himself to fight the first movie’s robot killer sleeps with Connor’s mother . . . conceiving Connor. Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel I Am Legend, in which the world’s last surviving human being battles vampire-like creatures, has inspired three Hollywood versions, but The Omega Man (1971)—in which Charlton Heston is first nearly crucified, then saves the world with his (antibody-carrying) blood, and winds up speared through the side and dead in, once more, a T shape—is more suggestively Christian than either The Last Man on Earth (1964) or last year’s Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend. Even in that most political of Cold War sci-fi movies, The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), we meet an alien who adopts the name “Carpenter” and, after being killed by the earthlings among whom he has landed, returns to life to offer them peace or a sword. Steven Spielberg’s E.T. (1982) similarly gave us a being who descended from heaven, cured disease miraculously, and then returned from death.

Yet despite the evocative power of the Christian narrative, it seems likely that geopolitics will return to mainstream science fiction, now that we realize how terribly exciting—I use the adverb carefully—our world still is. In fact, it’s already begun to happen. A fifth Star Trek series, called Enterprise, began its four-season run on September 26, 2001—just 15 days after 9/11 and just before our subsequent war against the Taliban—with the good guys fighting a new race of aliens called, by a curious coincidence, the Suliban. The action-packed series quickly became the best Trek since the original, and its references to 9/11 and the War on Terror only became more explicit as the show went on. In Enterprise’s penultimate season, aliens terroristically destroy a swath of Florida and the Enterprise goes on a mission to hunt them down and punish them.

Then there’s Battlestar Galactica. The corny 1978 original mercifully died after a single season. Five years ago, however, the franchise was reborn—first as a three-hour miniseries, then as a weekly show—in a compelling new form. As in the original, the show’s heroes, the last remnants of a human civilization destroyed by mechanical beings called Cylons, are fleeing their persecutors and seeking Earth, the legendary planet of their origin. But instead of the clunky robots of the 1978 series, the new Cylons are indistinguishable from human beings—a detail that helps turn the show into an ongoing examination of the War on Terror: Is it ethical to torture Cylons, for example? Other questions also echo our current conflict: How should the show’s hero deal with members of a (human) fifth column that has tried to sabotage his ship? How much access to sensitive information should he grant to an apparently hostile reporter? The show declines to answer straightforwardly, instead presenting viewers with a world whose politics, like our own, are filled with moral ambiguities and difficult trade-offs.

Now that science fiction again has politics to draw on, will it abandon its religious impulses? Predicting the future is a task best left to sci-fi writers themselves, but I’d bet not. In a genre less committed than most to the this-worldly, there will always be messiahs to save the world from evil robots or invading aliens. And at movie theaters and on TV screens nationwide, there will always be legions of worshipful fans.

Hope ain't jes' a happy wish. Happy-wish hope is "please Mr. President, gimme a car."
Thas' too juvenile to comment further.

But make note--that kind of "hope" sells big in pollyticks, an some folks is shocked to their crocs to find such shallow "hope" comes with a chain around yore neck, a mighty high price for a bowl of porridge. Next time ya hear some log-likkin' mush mouth talk about "hope," ya best turn yore back to it.

True hope is one of the theological virtues: Faith, Hope, Love.

The theological virtues build on a natural human awareness of excellence. This is why we can discuss hope whether or not youse a believer in anything theological or not.

"Virtue" ain't prissy. It's muscular. Virtue comes from Latin "virtus" meanin' strong, same root as virile. Heh--ain't that an old idea--that there is nuthin' virile about loss of virtue. Loss of virtue is loss true manliness, an' loss of inner strength.

Virtue means habitual and firm desire to do right. To do what is good. Virtue as a habit helps a body to perform good acts an' to give the best of hisself. The virtuous person tends toward the good with all his sensory and spiritual powers; he pursues the good and chooses it in concrete actions.

"Chooses it in concrete actions" means it ain't some lofty ideal fer you to demand of others to make up fer yore own lack, no no....it is an action on YORE own part to DO WELL, DO GOOD.

Now here's the hard sayin' about Hope: True Hope ain't had cheaply.

It comes to a person who has pursued self-mastery, a person who governs his or her passions according to the good for the body and soul, thus is goodly disposed toward neighbor as well.

If yore idea of hope is to find a legal cudgel to steal yore neighbors goods or opportunities, then yore hope does nothin' to strenghten you, rather it debases you.

Thas' a synthetic hope, a poison for suckin' down some of yore nighbors good. False hope breeds bad attitudes an' bad acts--that is, it weakens the body and mind. It makes ya unfit to contain any true hope --for ya know yore own inner rot is growin', takin' over what remains of healthy dispostions. Keep suckin' on false hope an' soon enough youse so weak ya cain't do nuthin' but whine for wine to put ya outa yore misery.

Hope is a by-product of good character development--an' that comes from education, trainin' and the practice of self-control.

For Christians Hope has a higher meaning still: The expectation of eternal life in the presence of God who created us to share eternity with Him, if we choose to choose the good. (God doan knock ya' over and demand ya' do thangs His way. He invites, you decide.)

Fortitude is one of the four cardinal virtues. It's the filet under the fois gras an' truffle.

Fortitude is the virtue that gives a person they own firm attitude of hope and goodness during troublesome times. Looky, it ain't all that hard to be "good" when thangs is goin' jes' swell--right?

Where fortitude comes in is doin' good, bein' good an' expectin good of others when thangs is troubled and wearying. THAT's the tough soul that displays virtus, a virility/ virtue that inspires others to behave their best too. Iffin' yore virtue ain't tested, how ya gonna keep it sharp and ready fer battle?

Fortitude is a commitment-- despite the odds-- in the pursuit of the good. It is the essence of resolve to do well and resist temptations to go flaccid. The virtue of fortitude is how the brave face fear, even fear of death, an' face trials or persecutions.

It's what stood martyrs up in the face of inhuman horrors. Fortitude in a Christian wells up from a deep resovoir of grace such that he can sacrifice his life in defense of a just cause. The Christian with hope and fortitude is not ultimately undone by any sufferings in this world because Christ also suffered, yet overcame all for our sakes, "Be good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Meanin' --of course--that I ain't no smarter than the next opinionator when it comes to weighing what lies ahead for the economy.

What I has seen is a LOT of stuff on the Internet that scares hair off a gorilla. But some of it over-reaches.

This is a clever site, set up like Dick & Jane to explain all our basic pillars that are fallin' down--this one is BIG OIL.

The gist of the cartoon primer (very effective format --I like it!) is that the earth is finite and thus resources are finite, especially energy resources like oil, and demand is outstrippin' this resource so war over oil is a gimme.

Wind and solar "flows" are finite an' cannot be increased. Add to this grim reality the fact that it takes energy to get energy--the deeper into the earth ya go to get the ore or oil or whatever resource, the more energy to get to it and to get the resource up to the surface-- until the energy cost for acquisition is greater than the energy that will be found. Stone age, here we come.

Well, mebbe not.

First, the primer doan take note of RENEWABLE energy sources. It doan allow none at all fer better efficiency in use of resources, and it doan give a nod to how humans usually figger out how to solve big problems--especially if ya can make a buck from it, like harnessin' ocean thermals and tidal energy.

Heck, iffin' sombody ain't thunk it up yet, I got an idea: Let's put giant magnifiers in the sky to magnify solar flows---we will think of SOMEthin'.

(What the world needs now is problem SOLVERS, not jes' problem analysts.)

But most of all, in the cartoon, the raw numbers is missin'. Looky, Ever hear that the sun is gonna go out one day? Anybody you know in a panic over that? Anybody screamin'

I ain't no petroleum engineer, so I doan know when we's due to run out of oil. But I do know that geothermal techniques have improved vastly and untapped shale oil on this globe is estimated at 2.8 TRILLION barrels...and 1.5 trillion is the USA. See? Hey we may not even use all the oil on the planet afore we colonize Uranus and mine its desserts.

Point is simple, sweet chillen': Thangs is bad, B A D, but it ain't as hopeless as some of these websites portray it.

Mah view is that it is jes' as dangerous to over state a case, or to insist on tunnel vision rather than problem solving, as it is to be an ostrich wif' yore haid in the sand.

It might get really ugly, folks wearin' crocs and gunny sack dresses, but we will make it.

I has great faith in us as humans. Not in any one human, but all of us--we's made in the image of God, who is The Creator. Know what that means? It means we is CREATIVE too. I have faith in man's ability to creatively solve technical problems...

Almost half of the state legislatures are considering or have representatives preparing to introduce resolutions which reassert the principles of the 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution and the idea that federal power is strictly limited to specific areas detailed in the Constitution and that all other governmental authority rests with the states.

In the version of this bill being considered in Washington state, they appeal to the authority of James Madison in The Federalist who wrote:

""The powers delegated to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the state governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, [such] as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce. The powers reserved to the several states will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people."

The founding fathers believed in a balance between state and federal power. This state sovereignty movement clearly arises from the belief that the balance of power has tilted too far and for too long in the direction of the federal government and that it's time to restore that lose balance.

The emergence of this movement is a hopeful sign of the people asserting their rights and the rights of the states and finally crying "enough" to runaway government. With the threat of increasingly out of control federal spending, some of these sovereignty bills may stand a fair chance of passage in the coming year.

Bruce Chapman is a former director of the Census Bureau. He says handing control of the Census over to the White House would compromise the integrity of the system and the population count so many people rely on.

"The first consequence is that literally states could [gain] or lose congressional seats. There could be changes in the makeup of legislative bodies within states," he notes. "Millions, billions of dollars of money could be reallocated according to some sort of formula where the Census Bureau's hard numbers are adjusted by sampling techniques and computer modeling, which are not good science."

Chapman says it is disingenuous for the Obama administration to continue talking about its respect for science while it is considering adjusting the count of experienced statisticians with "public opinion-style" sampling and computer models that will undermine the credibility of the Census numbers.

Osama bin Laden urged Muslims to launch a jihad against Israel, seeking to harness anger over the Gaza offensive with a new message posted on the Internet on Wednesday.

The al-Qaida chief vowed to open "new fronts" against the U.S. and its allies beyond Iraq and Afghanistan and also criticized Arab leaders, accusing most of them of being allies of the U.S. and Israel.

The White House dismissed the call to jihad, saying it reflects bin Laden's isolation and shows he is trying to remain relevant at a time when his ideology and mission are being challenged.

Bin Laden spoke in a 22-minute audiotape posted on Islamic militant Web sites where al-Qaida usually issues its messages. The 51-year-old al-Qaida leader has been in hiding since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, believed to be living somewhere along the lawless Pakistan-Afghan border.

It was bin Laden's first tape since May.

Catastrophe, mind you. So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared "we have chosen hope over fear." Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.

And so much for the promise to banish the money changers and influence peddlers from the temple. An ostentatious executive order banning lobbyists was immediately followed by the nomination of at least a dozen current or former lobbyists to high position. Followed by a Treasury secretary who allegedly couldn't understand the payroll tax provisions in his 1040. Followed by Tom Daschle, who had to fall on his sword according to the new Washington rule that no Cabinet can have more than one tax delinquent.

The Daschle affair was more serious because his offense involved more than taxes. As Michael Kinsley once observed, in Washington the real scandal isn't what's illegal, but what's legal. Not paying taxes is one thing. But what made this case intolerable was the perfectly legal dealings that amassed Daschle $5.2 million in just two years.

He'd been getting $1 million per year from a law firm. But he's not a lawyer, nor a registered lobbyist. You don't get paid this kind of money to instruct partners on the Senate markup process. You get it for picking up the phone and peddling influence.

At least Tim Geithner, the tax-challenged Treasury secretary, had been working for years as a humble international civil servant earning non-stratospheric wages. Daschle, who had made another cool million a year (plus chauffeur and Caddy) for unspecified services to a pal's private equity firm, represented everything Obama said he'd come to Washington to upend.

And yet more damaging to Obama's image than all the hypocrisies in the appointment process is his signature bill: the stimulus package. He inexplicably delegated the writing to Nancy Pelosi and the barons of the House. The product, which inevitably carries Obama's name, was not just bad, not just flawed, but a legislative abomination.

It's not just pages and pages of special-interest tax breaks, giveaways and protections, one of which would set off a ruinous Smoot-Hawley trade war. It's not just the waste, such as the $88.6 million for new construction for Milwaukee Public Schools, which, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, have shrinking enrollment, 15 vacant schools and, quite logically, no plans for new construction.

It's the essential fraud of rushing through a bill in which the normal rules (committee hearings, finding revenue to pay for the programs) are suspended on the grounds that a national emergency requires an immediate job-creating stimulus -- and then throwing into it hundreds of billions that have nothing to do with stimulus, that Congress's own budget office says won't be spent until 2011 and beyond, and that are little more than the back-scratching, special-interest, lobby-driven parochialism that Obama came to Washington to abolish. He said.

Not just to abolish but to create something new -- a new politics where the moneyed pork-barreling and corrupt logrolling of the past would give way to a bottom-up, grass-roots participatory democracy. That is what made Obama so dazzling and new. Turns out the "fierce urgency of now" includes $150 million for livestock (and honeybee and farm-raised fish) insurance.

The Age of Obama begins with perhaps the greatest frenzy of old-politics influence peddling ever seen in Washington. By the time the stimulus bill reached the Senate, reports the Wall Street Journal, pharmaceutical and high-tech companies were lobbying furiously for a new plan to repatriate overseas profits that would yield major tax savings. California wine growers and Florida citrus producers were fighting to change a single phrase in one provision. Substituting "planted" for "ready to market" would mean a windfall garnered from a new "bonus depreciation" incentive.

After Obama's miraculous 2008 presidential campaign, it was clear that at some point the magical mystery tour would have to end. The nation would rub its eyes and begin to emerge from its reverie. The hallucinatory Obama would give way to the mere mortal. The great ethical transformations promised would be seen as a fairy tale that all presidents tell -- and that this president told better than anyone.

I thought the awakening would take six months. It took two and a half weeks.

Still, I have a feeling we'll be even more awake six months from now. I hope the fun of "I told you so" will offset at least some of the hell that will be raining down.

This will end in tears.

The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.

We have been here before.

In the spring of 1997, to be precise, when a charismatic, young prime minister entered Downing Street, cheered by children bussed in for the occasion waving plastic Union Jacks. A very few of us at that time incurred searing reproaches for denouncing the Great Charlatan (as I have always denominated Tony Blair) and dissenting from the public hysteria. Three times a deluded Britain elected that transparent fraud. Yesterday, when national bankruptcy became a formal reality, we reaped the bitter harvest of the Blair/Brown imposture.

The burnt child, contrary to conventional wisdom, does not fear the fire.

After the Blair experience there is no excuse for anybody in Britain falling for Obama. Yet today, in this country, even some of those who remained sane during the emotional spasm of the Diana aberration are pumping the air for Princess Barack. At a time of gross economic and geopolitical instability throughout the Western world, this is beyond irresponsibility.

To anyone who kept his head, the string of Christmas cracker mottoes booming through the public address system on Washington's National Mall can only excite scepticism. It is crucial to recall the reality that lies behind the rhetoric. Denouncing "those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents" comes ill from a man whose flagship legislation, the Freedom of Choice Act, will impose abortion, including partial-birth abortion, on every state in the Union.

It seems the era of Hope is to be inaugurated with a slaughter of the innocents.

Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is like one of those toxic packages traded by bankers: it camouflages many unaffordable gifts to his client state. With a federal deficit already at $1.2 trillion, Obama wants to squander $825 billion (which will undoubtedly mushroom to more than $1 trillion) on creating 600,000 more government jobs and a further 459,000 in "green energy" (useless wind turbines and other Heath-Robinson contraptions favoured by Beltway environmentalists).

It is frightening to think there is a real possibility that the entire world economy could go into complete meltdown and famine kill millions. Yet Western - and British - commentators are cocooned in a warm comfort zone of infatuation with America's answer to Neil Kinnock. We should be long past applauding politicians of any hue: they got us into this mess. The best deserve a probationary opportunity to prove themselves, the worst should be in jail.

It is questionable whether the present political system can survive the coming crisis. Whatever the solution, teenage swooning sentimentality over a celebrity cult has no part in it. The most powerful nation on earth is confronting its worst economic crisis under the leadership of its most extremely liberal politician, who has virtually no experience of federal politics. That is not an opportunity but a catastrophe.

These are frank, even ungracious, words: they have the one merit that, unlike almost everything else written today about Obama, they will not require to be eaten in the future.

Obama's Victory?

A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher
Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of
objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because
they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but
would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A
victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. A victory for the cult of the
cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his
achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning
a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for
style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over
reality.

A victory for Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the world.
Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros and Sarandon. Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those
who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who
fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with
meager political fashion.

Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have
already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced,
without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like
most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and
Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are
drastically liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck
Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should
talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of
popular expression may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even
in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition.

A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise
children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to
teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is
sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as
quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity.

A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to
the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity,
failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation.
A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social
extremists and urban snobs.

Heraclitus of Ephesus held up a fine idea: A man possessed of wisdom has two main thangs to git done: figger out the content of important thangs an' then to name it right. Thas' philosopher speak fer "call it like it is".

Truth must be linked to something that has real, askshul existence in the world external to the mind of the thinker.

Y'all git that?
It means, the fantasy of the wishful thinkin' in yore haid doan qualify as "reality."

TO name somethin' rightly is to name it so that the external real CONTENT of the thang is conveyed. So--thinkin' deeply here--when the name or phrase for somethin' ain't named rightly, y'all can be dern sure thar's a reason somebody is obfuscatin' the real ackshul contents of the thang. Mostly, namin' wrongly so the name doan match the contents is obfuscatin' an' it is done cause iffin' the truth of it were said plain, some folks would NOT go along wif' it. Hence, obfuscatin' has become a 21st century art form.

The whole purpose of language is to order thangs accordin' to reality, then communicate that ordered reality. So when words is used to cause DELIBERATE disorder, wrong communication about a reality, all of mankind is abused.

Aunty will say straight out that at least one of the thangs that youse gonna read next is likely to run a thrill up yore leg, but not in a good way. I know some of these thangs is gonna raise some ire wif one or two of ya--but relax, I ain't meanin' to discuss the rightness or wrongness of none of 'em...mah point is to simply list a few of the more blatant obfuscatin' terms in common use by the mind controllers (spin doctors) .

It mayhap youse in agreement wif' the real content of the obfuscation, but ya might not think it ethical to resort to obfuscation--I is askin' ya' WHY NOT JES' SAY IT STRAIGHT OUT if youse in favor of it, jes' name it rightly.

Here is an example:

"Assisted suicide"

If you assist in killing somebody, youse a murderer. "Assisted suicide" takes advantage of a person who is vulnerable, in pain and or depressed. Less youse paralyzed, it doan take no hep to kill yoreself. Ya can swig some household cleaners and be done wif it. Most folks who are victims of the obfuscation of "assisted suicide" din't think it up themselves--no no no...somebody who "felt their pain" made the suggestion. In some countries they's seekin' to make laws that say a child has a "right" to assisted suicide "services" when he /she is 13 years old. No pathology need be present--no cancer or deformity, it can be as paltry as the kid is depressed because he din't make the soccer team.

"Equal opportunity"

This lie is intended to make you feel good about bestowing an unearned postion on an unqualified person. It devalues the opportunity such that it has little meaning. Now we have lawsuits whar' students sue schools because they cain't read! The student's degree or diploma doan mean he/she ackshully has marketable skills, jes a worthless "degree." "Equal opportunity is an obfuscation for "social engineering."

"Partner" (non-bidness, any orientation)

This is an obfuscation for fornication. If ya' is okay wif blatant sex outside the bond of marriage, doan try to pretty it up none--jes' be proud an' say it plain. Fornication is a perfectly descriptive word that means sex without marriage, as in, "Yeah, it's been ages since I seen y'all. Lemme introduce ya' to my fornicator, Tiffany."

(is that harsh? Okay, well I ain't meanin' them folks who is in full hanky panky mode but who is engaged and really will marry-up. I'se talkin' serial "partnering" year after year wif no intent to ever do right by any "partner", jes' use, abuse and move on sorta thang.)

"Freedom of choice"

This smarmy little phrase doan mean "hold the mustard, double the onion." That "choice" means takin' the life of a defenseless baby because the woman is pressured into it, thinks she has no one to help or wants to pursue other plans for her life. Doan fool around wif' that "blob of tissue" obfuscation either. The baby has a heartbeat at 17 days--afore the lady knows she's missed a cycle. Ever'body knows the "tissue" is no threat unless it is a baby. So name it out plain, "abortion." (Aunty has a soft heart fer ladies who has had abortions. I ain't moralizin' here a'tall. Not one iota. I is sayin' that we as a culture need to state plainly what this is--killing a child. When we say it plain, fewer women will be shoved and pressured into making this decison because she is lulled into thinkin' it is a "blob of tissue.")

MY main ire on "freedom of choice" is wif' politicans and the billion dollar abortion industry. Think now--can we use "freedom of choice" iffin' I put a pillow over Uncle's face while he sleeps an' snuff him out? Why not? Cause--fer now--UNcle still has an advocate in the law, an' we took that from babies. But watch out as the elderly become as inconvenient as an unplanned chile--soon "Duty to die" will be the new global warming hysteria.

"Managed freedom"

This is a scary newologism. It is used whar' they mean to tell you that doan worry iffin' yore rights is abridged, the "managers" is on yore side. It ackshully means soft creeping incremental tyranny, the elite control of the masses. Thus a universal healthcare will not deprive you of yore own doctors or preferences, oh no! It will be a new improved system of "managed freedom."

"Health and Reproductive Rights"

Sounds like someone finally coming to the aid of the poor Chinese folks whose gubmint is even now imposing more draconian laws to enforce the one child policy. Nope.

This nifty bit of obfuscation means exactly the opposite. It is U.N. speak fer forced contraception and forced abortions. Norplant shot into the arms of unsuspectin' Indian women in PEru and Ecuador. Free "clinics" in Colombia whar' women is given exams and IUDs are set without their knowledge or consent. See, at the U.N. pregnancy is a disease. So "health" is anti-pregnancy, and "reporductive rights" doan mean the right to reproduce, but the "right" to NEVER reproduce --particularly the populations that need "management."

The U.N. and other globalists doan want more'n about 2 billion people on this earth. Their plan calls fer 3/4 of that number to be serfs. The rest is management and potentates.

"Community Organizing"

A shiny polished spin jinned up ny Marixist Saul Alinsky that refers to using gangs and aggreived people for poltical extortion and personal gain. Synonymous these days wif' Acorn and Obamanation.

Whar' does all this doublspeak obfuscation take ya'? Somebody already seen all this comin' long afore Aunty was in bloomers:
