What Conservatives say to wishful thinkers:

“For God’s sake, think! Why is he being so nice to you?” by Sam Gross

Ask yourself, what's in it for those who promise you cradle to grave goodies for"free" ?

Or, to put it another way:

“There’s been a change in plans. Instead of Abilene, we’re going to Camelot.” by Sam Gross
“There’s been a change in plans. Instead of Abilene, we’re going to Camelot.” (One steer to another about Knights in armor on horseback.)

Yankees:

“We are neither hunters nor gatherers. We are accountants.” by Sam Gross

One of the first observations of the Confederacy was that the North had adopted a philosophy of utilitarianism, "What does it do to the bottom line"? Where this philosophy reigns, what is "right" is WHATever increases profits and to heck with morals.

Never forgit, chillen's, the FIRST thing Lincoln said when he heard of the firing on Ft. Sumter was "What will happen to my tarrifs?" At the time, the North had rammed through taxes that meant the South paid 90% of the tarrifs. Perspective:Lincoln emancipated slaves only in the South. Northern slaves remained enslaved--as did the indentured servants that ran northern factories.

One wise Southerner on learning of Benjamin Franklin's dictum, "Honesty is the best policy" noted that Mr. Franklin was in error. Honesty is not a policy, it is a principle.
