My Apologies!!! News... or is it?

Oh, ya'll, I'se so so sorry! The dawg ate mah homework! (Not OUR K9 pup, but the
vicious cyber cur thas' loose in blogworld) Doan know how, but sompin' got mah most recent post on: News...or is it?

Mega apologies ter DTDev, Q, Boneman and K9....ya'll had fine comments which is now floating in some cyberspace black hole...dang!!!

Boneman, I'd made a long response ter ya fine thoughts---eeek! Any chance ya can repost what ya said, honey? ANd you too K9? THe rest of ya, I think ya may have had some response--and I knows I cain't expect all ya'll to remember what ya said....I is jes' so dern sorry.

The topic of course was the faked photos--the 920 ditched fauxtographs and the new reality of bloggers as watch dogs on media fraud. The purpose of faked photos is to create alternate history, push agendas, but not to report actual history--we's being snookered. (see clip below)

But as seems ter happen frequently, the subject morphed and we's yakkin' bout religion. (Thas' OK iffin' thas' what ya'll has on ya mind)

So....iffin' ya'll will forgive me fer incompetence, I'd be so obliged. Thanky sugars..thanky.

Reuters drops Beirut photographer
The news agency Reuters has withdrawn from sale 920 pictures taken by a photographer after finding he had doctored two images taken in Lebanon.

Bloggers first spotted that smoke on Adnan Hajj's image of the aftermath of an Israeli air strike in Beirut appeared to have been made darker.

A Reuters investigation confirmed this and also found two flares had been added to an image of an Israeli jet.

Mr Hajj told the BBC he denied doctoring the content of the images.

He said had tried to clean dust off the first image, a shot of buildings in a suburb of Beirut, on which Reuters found smoke plumes had been darkened and expanded using computer software.

"It was so badly done - an amateur could have done better," Bob Bodman, picture editor at the Daily Telegraph newspaper, told the BBC.

Mr Hajj, a freelance photographer working for Reuters, denied altering the second photograph, an image of an Israeli F-16 fighter over Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon.

"There's no problem with it, not at all," he said in a BBC interview.

Paul Holmes, editor of political and general news at Reuters, told the BBC that senior photographers at the agency "weren't convinced" that cleaning dust off the first image would result in the manipulation the image showed.

He said there had been a "lapse in our editing process", but stressed that Reuters had moved swiftly to address the issue and tighten editing procedures.

All of us need to know how these pictures are obtained and used
Steve Herrmann,
BBC News website editor
Global picture editor Tom Szlukovenyi said all of Adnan Hajj's images had been removed from the company's database.

He described it as a precautionary measure, but said the manipulation undermined trust in Mr Hajj's entire body of work.

"There is no graver breach of Reuters standards for our photographers than the deliberate manipulation of an image," Mr Szlukovenyi said in a statement.

Questions were raised about the accuracy of the image on Sunday in several weblogs - personal online diaries by writers known as "bloggers" - including ones which scrutinise media coverage of the Middle East for bias.

Mr Holmes said Reuters welcomed the growth of weblogs, which had made the media "much more accountable and more transparent".

Altering pics to show a false reality... What world do these people live in?!

I'm curious, I see the differences in the two pictures of the beirut bombing, but I can't see what the doctored one was supposed to show.

Can you tell me?

Aunty Belle said...

Doc-t. hiidy do. Well, the analysts guess that the idea is that the faux-tographer was trying ter make the
situation look worse than it is.

Worse now, however are all them fakes of people supposed ter be dead who show up in photos in same clothes two days later on another stretcher, or even reversed roles as a stretcher bearer....then there is the photo of a Hez-bowl-ah gunamn wif' weapon pointed toward the a burning "neighborhood" --that turns out to be the city dump where garbage is being burned.

Heah is the thang, Doc---folks make decisions on info they git from "trusted" sources....we's being palyed like a fiddle--nevermind by Hez-bowl-ah, but by our own news hounds.

that has to be the worse photo doctoring i've ever seen!

i think its a safe bet that networks/news agencies have been manipulating the news we see for sometime now - just this perhaps is the first time it seems so transparent?

makes me wanna go with my intial gut feeling that anything i hear/read on tv/news is basically a contrived reality that the power brokers of society want me to see. sorta like that movie the matrix.

outrageous, really.

abuse of clone stamp! one artist making a poor decision can compromise the integrity of a name brand news org like reuters.

but the comment i made the first time around was about the religious debate that broke out over here:

is it not still possible, to question the actions of an individual, without it being a dig on the entire 5 zillion people he represents by virtue of birth? and without having to be an apologist for whatever it is that you happen to be?

looking at the photos: it really doesnt change the content much at all...smoke rising up from bombings...the photo increases the darkness of the smoke but that could have been an aesthetic choice as well as an effort to make things look worse.

either way, im sure it happens often. and, even well done photoshops are easy to spot when you blow them up and look at the pixels so....that would be the first order of biz for a publisher...'cept now there is a manic race to get it out fast....so.....wider margin for error.

Hey Velvey, I'se thinkin' youse right--hate ter think it, but seems ter be as ya noted.

Pup--now other photos showin' folks shown "dead" is alive a few days after and helpin' "resuce" others....and yore point on criticizin' an individual iant he same as dissin' the entire group--uh huh, but some folks havin' trouble wif this concept.

Ya saw the responses at Percival's? He is unable to grasp any distincion between a group of people an' an ideology--Islam as practiced by millions is an ideology of world conquest--ideology that infects millions --as did communism, irrespective of of ethnicity, and of birth etc....

Dawg, whar's yore lady pup?

I basically have to go with what velvet acid tongue has said. I've been suspicious of what I've read and seen on the media for a long time.

Don't know this Pig.Understand
his anger though.

Take a note libs:

Not bigoted to state facts.
Even if the fact makes others seethe. Muslims allowed the radical wing of Islam to dominate. Iran as prime example. Lebanese allowed Hez to dominate. Saudi Arabia tolerates Wahabi hotheads. If it were only a "few extremistis" then the rest
of the Muslim world would welcome
liberation. Where they do not
they cooperate with radicalism. Stating this is truth not bigotry.

Americans who seek to deflect radical Islam by hugging it
as a long lost brother are engaged in consensual hallucination.

Aw, now, ya'll, doan holler at Aunty Belle 'bout religious freedom--seeing as we ain't gonna allow religious freedom of human sacrifice or religious use of slaves--so, shur we does restrict some thangs hidin' under the name of "religion" and we oughta monitor every single mosque meetin in this nation.

Howdy-do Islamaphobia Inspector--I is still laughin'-sorta. Funny, but too close to the bone fer a real belly laugh--and Aunty can report she is a full 25 points.

Dawg, Pup, I does notice how nobody wants ter mention the new terrorist attacks--avoidance mode on steroids--as it invalidates they most cherished notions of how the world is.

Pup it ain't nuthin but garden variety fear on the parts o' those who's hurling meanness at ya'--they is fearful that they world is coming apart an' it is easier for them to hate you than the real enemy. So they blame you, me, conservatives, CHristians, republicans--ANYbody excpet thereal enemy.

This is cause they cannot get a handle on this enemy--he doan play by no rules that libs understand--so they is like the dimwit granny in A GOOD MAN IS HARD TO FIND--she thinks that iffin' she jes' speaks sweet to the Misfit, he's a' gonna not shoot her. She forgits he done jes' shot her son, and grandchilllen---as if.

Sorry Pup, wish't I had somethin' more upliftin' ter say, but I think Americans who won't deal wif reality is buying a scimitar fer us all.

Can ya' save Aunty Belle a place up in yore neck o' the woods?
