Vatican decries "monstrous" British approval for hybrid embryos
Rome, Sep. 6, 2007 (CWNews.com) - The president of the Pontifical Academy for Life has said that the British decision to approve creation of "hybrid" human-animal embryos is "a monstrous act against human dignity."
Speaking to a Vatican Radio audience, Bishop Elio Sgreccia said the British government had "crumbled when confronted by requests from a group of immoral scientists." The government had backed away from plans to outlaw the research on hybrid embryos under heavy pressure from researchers.
In England, meanwhile, the director of the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship charged that decision to approve hybrid-embryo research, made by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), was a "shocking abuse of power." Andrea Minichiello Williams observed that Parliament had been studying the question and preparing for a vote when the HFEA "completely usurped the democratic process" by claiming the authority to approve the research.
Well, sooner or later it had ter come, right?
"Researchers want to create hybrid embryos by merging human cells with animal eggs, in the hope they will be able to extract valuable embryonic stem cells from them. The cells form the basic building blocks of the body and are expected to pave the way for revolutionary therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and even spinal cord injuries."
An' who is doin' this ya' ask??
The Brits have a Human Fertility Authority. What's more, that Authority has declared it time fer scientists to meld animal parts to the humans they's experimentin' on....(see two posts back on Dr. Frankenstein)
Mah point, sweet thangs, is that science is a tool. Like a hammer. There is a right use and a wrong use of science. If people went around usin' a hammer to knock sense in the haids of dense folks, we'd put a stop to it. If people went about usin' a hammer to discipline our dawgs, why, folks would put a stop to right away! ( Mike Vic, call your probation officer!) Ever think about the irony of the "Humane Society?"
I mean, it is for animals...and it is literally calling fer treatin' animals wif' the respect a human (humane) is due. But ain't no humane society fer humans...whar' is the outcry against this stuff?
